News Story

Wiltshire Creative’s Young Ambassadors are a passionate, proactive group of people aged 14-25 who are helping to shape our artistic programme and inspiring change. We provide a safe space for ideas; they get hands-on experience and unique opportunities for development.

Nadine, Kitty, Kia, Lily, Olivia, Isabel, Freya and Alfie played a vital role in building audiences for our highly-acclaimed production of Romeo and Juliet, by:

• helping introduce an Under 25s ticket price for the production, encouraging over 1000 young people to attend

• working with a creative design agency and Wiltshire Creative’s own in-house team to develop artwork and social media plans for the show

• creating a Young Volunteer Steward role for the show, engaging 21 people who are now keen to return.

The Young Ambassadors said:

“We worked with Zap Creative to create the Romeo and Juliet artwork. We looked at the themes of Romeo and Juliet that were important to young people - tragedy, cycles and inheritance, rebellion, death and conflict and love. Love is so central to the story, but we wanted to put a different spin on it.

This was an amazing opportunity to work alongside industry professionals and to develop skills and insights into the process behind marketing theatre productions. We learnt that design is an interactive process, and it took us a few sessions to reach the finished product. It was so interesting to see how our ideas transformed over time and when we saw the final posters around town, it was super cool!

We also worked with the Wiltshire Creative marketing team to create a social media plan for Romeo and Juliet. We researched the ways other theatres use social media to promote their shows, which inspired us to film our own TikTok style videos.

Working with Zap and the Wiltshire Creative team … has allowed us more opportunities to learn transferable skills for a future in the creative arts and other industries.”

What’s next?

Our Young Ambassadors are now looking at more opportunities to engage a younger audience with future productions, and hoping to expand the Young Ambassador presence. They’re also looking at becoming more involved with the National Youth Advisory Board, to share ideas with other young people across the country with an interest in the arts.
