ARTIST OF THE WEEK - Further Education Course Leader Tom Sherman

1 March 2021
Tom Sherman

We are proud to feature a range of artists and friends through this series of Wiltshire Creative Connects films we created during the Spring of 2020.

Shining a spotlight on artists

Each week, through a series of short films, we will profile one of the amazing artists who either live locally or has worked with Wiltshire Creative.

This week it is actor and Wiltshire Creative’s Further Education Course Leader Tom Sherman. In conversation with Wiltshire Creative’s Associate Director Dave Orme, Tom discusses his career and the Performing and Production Arts Further Education course which is run in conjunction with Wiltshire College.

Alongside this, budding actors will have the opportunity to work with Tom on a Shakespeare monologue in a live workshop session, and he will also recite a selection of poetry that has been requested by Wiltshire Creative audiences.

Also this week, we will showcase the Further Education course and there will be an opportunity ask Tom and students about the course – one of just a handful of courses based at working arts venues.

Tom trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.  He went on to have a long and varied acting career in producing houses across the country, as well as numerous tours to schools.  Tom has appeared in many pantomimes and has written and directed for children’s theatre. He has performed in many radio dramas and provided voice over for BBC Radio 3 and 4 and Channel 4. His passion for his craft and learning led him to undertake a MA in Professional Theatre Practice in 2016.  He freelances as an actor and as a visiting lecturer for Staffordshire University and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Wiltshire Creative Further Education Performing and Production Arts Showcase 2020 - Preview
We are delighted to present a few highlights from this year's Showcase. Usually this is a live event on one of our professional stages but due to Covid-19 the students learning has temporarily shifted to online platforms. Which means that the format of their showcase is also now virtual. This is the culmination of 6 weeks of collaboration and independent creativity working within their limited means to research, learn, devise and record their performances. We hope you enjoy these early takes.

From Sappho to Shakespeare, Milton to Marvell, Blake to Browning. Listen to Tom recite poems as requested
