Young Technicians

Our Young Technicians programme for 14 to 18-year-olds develops technical skills that support live performance, including sound, lighting and stage management. Participants get hands-on experience as they shadow professional productions and technicians.

Young Technicians have supported Stage 65 Youth Theatre productions at the Playhouse, Band Nights at the Arts Centre, and Arts Festival events. We also offer bespoke workshops and training to help them prepare for a production career.

Enrolment starts in September each year, and the programme runs until July of the following year. Please email takepart@wiltshirecreative.co.uk to express your interest.

From September 2025 to July 2026, ten young people took the opportunity to learn and gain hands-on experience through the Young Technicians programme, including shadowing professionals during Panto season. They were introduced to world-class audio and visual arts through once-in-a-lifetime workshops with touring giants Major Tom Audio and Colonel Tom Touring.

Some participants had little or no practical backstage experience at the start of the programme in September 2025. By spring 2026, they were confidently using their new talents to manage youth music nights at Salisbury Arts Centre.

I found what I wanted to do ... And it's helped push myself to get the grades that I've wanted.

2025/26 participant

Our 2025-26 Young Technicians have been invited back to take part in next year's programme to take their skills to the next level. They’ll work with our Stage 65 Youth Theatre and events for Salisbury International Arts Festival 2027, while helping to train our new starters.
