Our Young Technicians programme helps people aged 14 to 18 understand the art of sound, lighting and stage management.

Over the course of the last academic year, we offered ten young people opportunities to learn and gain hands-on experience, such as shadowing professionals during Panto season. They were introduced to world-class audio and visual arts through once-in-a-lifetime workshops with touring giants Major Tom Audio and Colonel Tom Touring.

Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn was fantastic, and seeing their confidence develop throughout the programme was incredibly rewarding. We’re proud to play a small part in introducing the next generation to the opportunities available within our industry.

Some participants had little or no practical backstage experience at the start of the programme in September 2025. By spring 2026, they were confidently using their new talents to manage youth music nights at Salisbury Arts Centre.

I found what I wanted to do … And it's helped push myself to get the grades that I've wanted.

Participants have been invited back to take part in next year's programme to take their skills to the next level. They’ll work with our Stage 65 Youth Theatre and events for Salisbury International Arts Festival 2027 – while helping to train our new starters.
