A new season begins for our re-launched group Momentum this autumn, offering a mix of workshops, talks and projects that help interested adults explore the world behind the scenes at Salisbury Playhouse.

Over 10 years ago we supported an intergenerational project connecting people through theatre arts. After the project finished, an appetite for exploration remained with the older audience involved – so what was known as “Mind the Gap” carried on.

In recent years, however, it became clear that the old name wasn’t capturing the energy and creativity the group had developed. We held a consultation with current and previous members and involved artists to understand how we could reimagine the group in a way that best serves the local community.

We learned what participants valued most about their involvement: connection, creativity, and the chance to be curious in a safe environment where they’re valued and respected. The group provides opportunities to make friends, work with arts professionals, and explore new activities.

Held fortnightly from Friday 4th September, our newly launched Momentum workshops offer a packed autumn programme, from learning about improvisation skills to performing as part of an intergenerational Christmas Choir with students from Exeter House. Participants will meet actors, directors and other arts professionals, gaining insight into the workings of Salisbury Playhouse while trying new things and meeting new people.

Momentum is, at its heart, a celebration of lifelong learning and discovery:
