News Story

Wiltshire Creative is proud to be part of Well-City Salisbury, offering creative wellbeing courses designed for people experiencing low to medium mental health needs. We're pleased to share that our next course is now live:

Theatre Arts: Connect · Play · Create
Wednesdays 23 September - 2 December, 12noon - 2.30pm
at Salisbury Playhouse
Bookings close Friday 11 September

This course invites participants to explore a working theatre from the inside out, including backstage spaces, conversations with creatives, and respond to the Salisbury Playhouse programme through a variety of activities, supported by artist Elizabeth Hammond and facilitator Cesca Myles.

Hands-on sessions will explore puppetry, mask making, and theatrical design. Participants will be creating and playing with ideas of bringing objects to life in a relaxed, supportive environment using games, movement, light, and storytelling.

There is no pressure to perform: everything is participant-led through exploration. Inspired by the idea of transformation through storytelling, the activities encourage imagination, gentle self-expression, and time to simply make and play in a group.

No previous experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to explore at your own pace in a welcoming inclusive space.

Course Access Information:

Some backstage areas of the Playhouse are not fully wheelchair accessible due to multiple stair-only access. Speak with us if you are a wheelchair user signing up to our course so we can plan accordingly.

Activities involve fine motor skills (cutting, gluing, taping), light movement and puppeteering. We are mindful that all movement activities have seating options and are inclusive for working with the way you move.

All activities are optional, but full participation is encouraged to explore the course fully and all activities are delivered in a welcoming, inclusive space.

Taster Session

Wednesday 22 July, 1.30–2.30pm

We're offering a drop-in, informal session so you can meet the facilitator and project coordinator. You'll learn how we work with artists to create safe, supportive creative spaces, and try out a simple creative activity based around puppetry. You'll be able to get information about our Well-City Salisbury Theatre Arts course and enjoy free tee or coffee.

What’s Well-City Salisbury All About?

Our creative courses are for people living in Salisbury within the SP1 – SP5 postcodes and are ideally suited to those with low to medium mental health needs, such as anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, and feelings of social isolation.

The courses and support offered are designed for those looking to improve their mental and emotional wellbeing, connect with others, meet new people in a safe and supportive environment, explore new creative skills or learn more about local heritage and culture.

Well-City Salisbury primarily uses a social prescribing model where participants are referred/signposted onto a course by their GP practice, support organisations or school wellbeing team, for example. However, we also welcome self-referrals if that route doesn’t work for people and where they currently are on their wellbeing journey. Both referral routes require completing a referral form which can be found on the Well-City website here.

This course is free to attend, available for adults 20+. All materials and refreshments are provided.

If you're interested in this course, you can find more information and view there participation criteria and referral forms on the Well-City Salisbury website.
