Hermione Thomson Eco-Resin Mixed Media Workshop
Saturday 16 October at 9.30am - 4.30pm
MIXED MEDIA ECO RESIN WORKSHOP- MEANING, MATERIALS & MAKING
In this workshop you can come to explore and work with an ECO-RESIN. This is medium which is traditionally used in architecture and is relatively new on the contemporary art and craft scene.
Artist Hermione Thomson will show you how to create unique mixed media tiles. You will create up to 8-10 individual tiles using an array of mixed media, colour, pattern, shape, and texture in a fun, creative and mindful way, fully supported during the day. You are invited to bring your own materials such as bits of fabric, lace, fibres, felt, hair, waste materials, which you might like to encapsulate or you can just come to experiment with this versatile medium and materials provided.
Hermione is a holder of MA in textiles from UCA Farnham. She takes an experimental approach to her work using a range of traditional and contemporary processes, methods and media to create both 2d and 3d outcomes. Drawn to finding the beauty in worn surfaces that appear to reflect the passage of time, Hermione’s works often have a material tactility about them. Eroded surfaces that afford slow emerging patinas creating an impermanent aesthetic, deeply resonate and provide limitless inspiration to her work. Choice materials include bio-resin and waste/found fabrics otherwise headed for landfill.
Recent works have emerged from a practice led research degree where she explored how contemporary textiles art could materialise loss. Her research question came initially from her own experience of using art to work through a loss which then developed into research of other practitioners’ work in the field of bereavement art.
Hermione is based in Surrey, she also teaches Art & Textiles at a Surrey college.
Each participant could make up to 8-10 pieces
The materials for the workshop will cost approx. £ 15 per person based on 8-10 pieces.
