Alex Hoare – Glass Workshop
Saturday 20 November at 10am - 4.30pm
Introduction to Kiln Formed Glass with Alex Hoare
A full-day workshop in which you will have the opportunity to learn about fused or kiln formed glass with ‘Linescapes’ exhibition artist Alex Hoare.
During the workshop you will be taught about design, form and making techniques which include cutting glass, working with powders and frits, fusing and slumping glass.
You will produce a number of items, choose from tea light holders, Christmas decorations, coasters, soap dish, bowl or candle arch.
Alex will take the items to be fired in her kiln and your items will be ready for collection from the front desk on 30 November 2021.
Alex Hoare has 20 years experience working as an artist in a variety of creative disciplines, including kilnformed glass, scenography, art installation, performance, textiles and arts administration. Alex has graduated in 1996 with degree in textiles from Loughborough University and in 2001 with MA in Scenography (Dance) at Laban Centre London.
Her work is strongly influenced by her background in scenography observing how experience can be altered and enhanced when colour, light, objects and sound are carefully curated together. Reoccurring themes in her work include creation of moments of contemplation and calm and observing how glass alters and intervenes in our experience of the world: as a lens, a vessel/container, a carrier of data, a screen onto the world - creating a barrier and a window - ancient yet completely contemporary.
