DAME DARCEY BUSSELL COMES TO SALISBURY IN FIRST UK DIVERSE DANCE MIX SCHOOL SUMMER COMPETITION!

Over 5,000 school pupils up and down the country have signed up to take part in a brand-new dance and fitness school competition hosted by Diverse Dance Mix (DDMIX) and none other than former prima ballerina and TV star Dame Darcey Bussell DBE – with the tour making its opening date in Salisbury!

In its inaugural year, the competition has seen an incredible number of school entries, including 20 schools taking part from Salisbury – all aiming to reach the regional final taking place on Friday 31st May in the beautiful surroundings of Salisbury Cathedral. These include: Pitton CoE Primary, St Mary’s CE Primary, Luckington Community School, Avon Valley College, River Mead, Mead Community Primary, The Wellington Academy, Box Primary, Whitesheet Primary Academy, St Katherines Primary, St Andrews Primary, Nursteed Community Primary, Rushall Primary, Chafyn Grove, Derry Hill Primary, Broad Chalke Primary, Horningsham Primary, Christ The King Roman Catholic Primary, Wellington Primary Academy and Castle Mead.

How the competition works

Over the past six weeks, registered schools have each been learning one of Dame Darcey’s fun DDMIX dance and fitness routines of their choosing, with choreography including a variety of styles such as Hand Jive, Japanese, 1980’s and more. Once practised to perfection, each school must submit their polished routine via video link for judging by Dame Darcey and her team.

After the judging phase, shortlisted schools will get to take part in the special regional final taking place at the cathedral, where they will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform their DDMIX dance routine in front of Dame Darcey and a live audience for a chance to be crowned the overall regional winner!

The final will also see performances from specially invited guests including Britain’s Got Talent star, the mesmerising illusionist and magician, MADDOX, who will entertain the crowd with his unique talent, as well as the Magic Circle’s Wayne Fox.

Commenting on the forthcoming event in Salisbury, Dame Darcey, said: “I’m delighted to work with schools across the country during this exciting competition, promoting health and fitness through dance. Best of luck to you all!”

Maddox added: “I’m really looking forward to bringing a very special magic experience to the Darcey Bussell schools dance/fitness competition this summer. It’s so exciting to know there are thousands of young performers now rehearsing to reach the regional live shows. Good luck to all of you and see you at the finals”.
