We’re excited to be bringing our new Pottery @Home packs back this summer, a chance to work creatively from the comfort of your own home. These packs can be purchased below and collected from Salisbury Arts Centre at your chosen time and date. They make the perfect activity for ages 4+. If you’re not sure what you’d like to create, alongside the clay you’ll also receive instructions for a couple of simple projects. For £8, the cost also covers the first (biscuit) firing. Biscuit firing hardens the clay in the kiln so you can then paint your creation for the perfect matt finish.

Purchase a Pottery @Home Pack online and collect from the front desk at Salisbury Arts Centre on your selected day between 11am and 3pm on Saturday 14th August. You'll be sent a ticket for every pack you buy as proof of payment which you can show on your phone or tablet, or print a copy to show on collection from the front desk.

If you would like your work fired, you will need to be mindful of the following:

When joining two clay parts together, always crosshatch (scratch the surface) and apply slurry (watered down clay) and crosshatch again the areas that are being joined together and press them together so the slurry squeezes out the side.

Hollow out your solid sculptures. The clay walls should not be thicker than your thumb.

If making an enclosed hollow form, make sure that you make a small hole for air/steam to escape.

When you have completed your work:

Make sure that you scratch visible initials on the bottom of your piece.

Fill out the label (which is inside the box) with your initials, name and contact details.

Bring your clay creation to us in the Pottery at Home cardboard box for firing.

The drop off date for having your clay creations fired is Saturday 28th August, 11am to 3pm at Salisbury Arts Centre.

Work can then be collected on Saturday 11th September, 11am to 3pm at Salisbury Arts Centre. (Please let us know if you cannot make this date as work that is uncollected can not be stored)

Your piece will not be shiny because it will not be glaze fired. You can carry on with your creativity by painting and decorating your work using felt tips or acrylics paints.
