About Roger McGough: Alive and Gigging
A national treasure, Roger McGough presents Radio 4's flagship programme Poetry Please, and remains one of the most recognisable voices in British poetry. Now 86 and still gigging regularly, McGough has thrilled and delighted generations of readers with his irreverent, intimate and ever-original poetry.
In this new show, McGough takes audiences on a journey through his life in poetry, back to his childhood during the Liverpool blitz and bomb-shelters, his youth as a contemporary of the Beatles and Bob Dylan and the fame of number one hits and Top of the Pops with ‘Lily the Pink’ and ‘Thank You Very Much’ with the band The Scaffold.
Join us for an unmatched store of warmth, wisdom and feeling from Britain's most beloved poet.
McGough is a true original and more than one generation would be much the poorer without him
