Salisbury Playhouse announces Christmas 2019 productions

Robin Hood
16 January 2019

Just after this year’s record-breaking pantomime Beauty and the Beast and hit musical The Night Before Christmas have come to an end, Salisbury Playhouse is delighted to announce its Christmas productions for 2019/20.

The pantomime will be a spectacular new production of Robin Hood, running from 30 November 2019 to 12 January 2020.

Written by Andrew Pollard – who has written the last four pantomimes for Salisbury Playhouse – Robin Hood will feature all the traditional elements of a pantomime and be based on the well-known tale of Robin stealing from the rich to help the poor.

A trip to the Playhouse pantomime has become an important part of Christmas celebrations for families, schools and groups, with many performances selling out. To accommodate demand, Robin Hood will run from 30 November 2019 until 12 January 2020.

It follows yet another record-breaking run of the pantomime at Salisbury Playhouse this winter. Beauty and the Beast was enjoyed by more than 26,000 people with most performances selling out

Salisbury Playhouse is also today announcing a new musical adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s The Tailor of Gloucester as its Christmas production in The Salberg for young children and their families, with daytime performances from 9 to 28 December 2019.

Salisbury Playhouse has built a strong following for its heart-warming musical productions for young children, with its recent stagings of The Night Before Christmas and Little Robin Redbreast. They are fast becoming as traditional an annual visit as the pantomime. The Tailor of Gloucester is written by Gareth Machin and Glyn Kerslake, the writers behind The Night Before Christmas and Little Robin Redbreast.

Wiltshire Creative Artistic Director Gareth Machin said: “As in previous years, we’re delighted to offer something for everyone at Christmas time – from the very young who may be experiencing theatre for the first time through to the groups for whom pantomime is an annual festive tradition.”

Priority booking for Wiltshire Creative Members for both Robin Hood and The Tailor of Gloucester opens on 1 February. General booking opens on 8 February.
