Puppetry, Vikings and more to entertain families this Half Term

06 February 2020

Wiltshire Creative has puppetry, Vikings, a midnight cat, disgusting songs and The Lion King all lined up to keep families entertained this February Half Term.

On Monday 17 February, Norwich Puppet Theatre presents Beastly Belle in The Salberg at Salisbury Playhouse. Based on the story of Beauty and the Beast, this puppet show follows the young heroine Belle who is plucked from a life of poverty and swept into a world of fame and fortune in the movies – but looks aren’t everything, right? Ideal for ages 4+.

On Tuesday 18 February, A Bird in the Hand Theatre presents Midnight in The Salberg at Salisbury Playhouse. It’s a dream-like show combining beautiful puppetry with music and storytelling to tell the story of Midnight the cat who rules the roost when most people are sound asleep. Ideal for ages 5+.

On Wednesday 19 February also in The Salberg at Salisbury Playhouse is Vinland, a dark, wintry Viking adventure featuring animation, live drawing and music alongside storytelling. It retells the incredible historical tale of the Vikings’ last journey to North America and is inspired by the Viking sagas of Erik the Red and his family. Ideal for ages 8+.

On Wednesday 19 February, Salisbury Arts Centre is showing the 2019 film The Lion King with Donald Glover (Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story) as future king Simba and Beyonce Knowles-Carter (Dreamgirls, Lemonade visual album) as Simba's friend-turned-love interest Nala.

Outside of Wiltshire Creative’s venues, performer Jay Foreman takes his show Disgusting Songs for Revolting Children (And Grown Ups) – which was sold out at Salisbury Playhouse in 2018 – to Bemerton Heath Community Centre and Tidworth Library on Tuesday 18 February. Ideal for ages 6+.

Following half term, Roald Dahl & the Imagination Seekers comes to The Salberg at Salisbury Playhouse on Thursday 27 and Friday 29 February using performance, games and creative play to explore some of Dahl’s extraordinary stories including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and The Twits. Ideal for ages 4+.
