Wiltshire Creative is delighted to offer a fantastic socially-distanced season of theatre, dance, music, comedy and live screenings, running between 8 June – 10 July at Salisbury Playhouse along with an outdoor seating offer, exhibition and the return of all workshops at Salisbury Arts Centre.
Following the government roadmap, we are delighted to be able to offer indoor performances again from June. With social distancing, the capacity of the main house will be reduced from 512 to 195, with audiences sitting in their household bubbles across the auditorium and some rows completely removed. Wiltshire Creative has also been awarded the Good to Go and See it Safely certificate ensuring your visit is safe.
Theatre performances include the return of Living Spit’s Howard and Stu with their brand-new, monstrously-musical, Disney-defying version of a French classic - Living Spit’s Beauty and the Beast. Lewis Doherty’s explosive show WOLF, in an hilarious adventure across a cyber-punk landscape. Performances from our Further Education students and as a theatre partner for this year’s NT Connections Festival, we are delighted to be showcasing some of the UK’s most exciting writers with the theatre-makers of tomorrow.
Digital includes the premier of a brand-new audio drama from playwright Simon Butteriss with a star cast of film, TV, Stage and Playhouse Favourites.
Dance includes Rosie Kay with Absolute Solo II a triple bill of solos performed by Rosie Kay herself and spellbinding performances from Lîla Dance with The Hotel Experience.
Live music includes the return of the Rock and Roll band The Boulevards, compulsively danceable rhythms from the UK’s pioneering Bollywood Brass Band and singer, songwriter, cellist and composer, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, known for performances at the Royal Albert Hall, London and recently seen on the first night of the BBC Proms.
Family events include a magical visual story from Messy, complete with original music, puppets, tap dancing and even a trip to the moon! Performed by a Deaf and hearing cast with relaxed performances is mind, this is the perfect theatre experience for young children who also want to stand up, sit down, wriggle around or who are new to theatre. Wiltshire Creative also sees the return of StrongWomen Science, revealing the astounding secrets that lie behind circus tricks. It's a fun, lively and fast-paced circus show from the winners of a Fantastic for Families award, demonstrating how jugglers, acrobats and hula hoop artists use science to create their amazing acts. Audiences loved these performances last year at Salisbury Playhouse. From 26 May, as part of our SHIFT programme there will be a hub at Salisbury Arts Centre to celebrate hundreds of young voices from across the South West in a FREE exhibition.
Stand-up comedy comes from Mock the Week regular Ed Gamble and the return of the musical comedy duo Flo & Joan.
Screenings include the 2020 film Misbehaviour based on an inspiring true story about 1970’s Miss World including stars Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jessie Buckley and Keely Hawes, Socrates a multi award-winning indie and LGBTQ film by award-winning director Alexandre Moratto. Kinky Boots the Musical, filmed live at the Adelphi Theatre in the heart of London’s West End, struts its way onto the big screen at Salisbury Playhouse and as part of Engine Room 2021 we will have a film festival showcasing local film makers in the South West.
From 25 May Wiltshire Creative will host Alternate Perceptions at Salisbury Arts Centre, in this exhibition, artist Mahlia Amatina invites the audience into a multi-sensory experience of colour, line, shape and form through tactile art that explores the creative side of neurodiversity. From 13 July, on the success of previous Summer Open Exhibitions, Wiltshire Creative are once more providing a platform for the talent which flourishes in and around the county of Wiltshire.
